Teen Eating Disorder Treatment

Intensive Outpatient Program for Eating Disorders

Adolescent eating disorders counselingAlternative Options adolescent eating disorder IOP offers a comprehensive treatment program to help adolescent boys and girls struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image issues. We provide a safe and nurturing environment to help adolescents and their families alter their relationships with food and correct underlying issues maintaining the eating disorder.

Family involvement is a crucial component of adolescent treatment and recovery. Family members are involved in multi-family groups, family therapy, and nutritional education. Families have the opportunity to address communication issues, unresolved conflict, and boundary issues impacting the adolescent. Participation by family members provides the adolescent the added support necessary to achieve recovery.

Alternative Options adolescent eating disorder treatment team consists of professionals from many different disciplines, which include therapists, counselors, psychiatrists, and dietitians. Our team of eating disorder specialists have a proven track record of treating adolescent Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder. We also help adolescents work through issues related to body image, orthorexia, perfectionism, identity, and the unmet emotional needs fueling eating disorder behaviors. Our treatment team also collaborates with the client’s medical doctor for coordination of care and to ensure the adolescents safety while in treatment.

Alternative Options’ treatment programs focus on the whole person. In addition to treating symptoms of an eating disorder, adolescents can also receive treatment for underlying mental health issues like depression and anxiety that contribute to or are exacerbated by an eating disorder. Treatment for co-occurring substance abuse issues are available as well.

Without early intervention, an eating disorder or disordered eating can develop into a life long struggle. Alternative Options intensive outpatient program can be an early step in treatment and support for adolescents and their families struggling with the potentially life threatening effects of an eating disorder. IOP level of care can also be a step down in treatment for those adolescents transitioning from inpatient or residential care.
