Parents Checklist for Substance Abuse
  1. Deteriorating relationships with family
  2. Negative changes in school
  3. Increased secrecy about associations or activities, use of incense, room deodorizer, etc. to hide odors
  4. Change in clothing choices; Highlighting drug use/behavior
  5. Increase in borrowing money
  6. Evidence of drug paraphernalia
  7. Evidence of inhalant use (Correction fluid, computer cleaner, other common household products)
  8. Bottles of eye drops used to mask bloodshot eyes/dilated pupils
  9. New use of mouthwash or breath mints to cover up alcohol
  10. Missing prescriptions (Vicodin, Tylenol#3, Narcotics)
  11. Use of cold medicines (Street name Triple C’s) Coricidin Brand

 

**While any one of these indicators does not mean that your child is using drugs, evidence of three or more may be a warning and should be investigated further**
